Good morning, everyone...what a BLUEEE Monday....I hope this long and quite complicated post won't make you feel blue, or green, or red, or whatever colour due to confusion. :-D
I just attended ICE training last week. Basically ICE is Internal Customer Excellence training conducted by my company. For the very first time, they conducted this training in order to educate its staffs how to implement good attitude at workplace. So from my team, me and my girl- colleague, together with approximately 20 associates, were the first batched attending this training. Yesss we are guinea pigs *oink oink* .They also come to the extent of videoing the whole entire training process, so that the management know what the training is all about….and most probably they will take this training into management consideration and implement it into other region.

Cut story short, basically this Ang Moh trainer is giving the idea on how to have a good team-work and some proactive communication skills in order to get the job done. The best part, the trainer has excellent communication + interpersonal skill hence he could perform the presentation very clearly. Even he gave some examples which are related to our everyday duties. The class was quite interactive, a lot of laughter and opinions came from participants. The material given is very useful and easy to understand. We had some fun plus learnt something new.
I’m not able to tell you exactly what is the training all about but here I’ll share one interesting facts. It's about our brain.
Our excellent brain divided by 3 functions, as you can see from below to above
1. Reptilian (spontaneous reaction)
This part of brain is in charge of controlling our sensory integration. For instance, when our body heat increase, your body will automatically produce sweat because this reptilian brain send message to part of your body (skin) to produce sweat in order to balance your body temperature. The interesting part is, you don't need to ask your brain to produce sweat, its auto and beyond our control. It's a spontaneous reaction.
2. Mammalian (emotional reaction)
This part of brain is in charge of controlling our emotions such as anger, sad, disappointment, and etc... For instance, you will feel sad when you feel lonely. You will feel happy when someone who dear to you care about you.
3. Rationale (intellectual reaction)
This part of brain is in charge of controlling our intellectuality. This is our most treasure which differentiates us with animals. This brain takes a big part especially when you study, learn, memorize, explore something new, planning, making decisions, and etc…
This is the most interesting part.
Tell you the truth, we, human being, is a very reactive creature. We act because we want to react to the particular matters/ objects. Without our realizing it, our reaction is normally controlled by our environment.
Understood?
Okie, give you example, normally if someone pinch your hand and you felt hurt, what would you do? Would you feel angry and pinch her back? Or would you just keep quiet and does nothing like heartless human? Of course the answer will definitely the first one. Remember we are a reactive creature…So reactive human are used to adapt reactive behaviour. Make sense, right?
Formula for Reactive Behaviour.
Meaning, people who adapt reactive behaviour, when the stimulus arise, he will respond immediately. Why? Here is the explanation.
Synergy of Reactive Behaviour
Synergy of Reactive Behaviour
As you can see in the picture, when stimulus comes, it will go thru to the very first reptilian brain, continue to mammalian brain, and finally reach to rationale brain. But sometimes, because the stimulus is happening so fast, your mammalian brain (which controls your emotion) begin to shut down completely. So the stimulus stuck in mammalian brain thus cannot reach rationale brain. Suddenly you cannot think straight anymore. You gone berserk, you gone like mad bull. Without you realizing it, your mammalian brain takes control over you and won't allow your rationale brain to work. End of the day, you did something that you’ll regret someday.
FYI, alcohol and drugs are the best stimulus to activate mammalian brain plus shutting down rationale brain. That is why when you drink too much alcohol and drugs, you can do something stupid nor beyond your control, but you won't remember a single thing when you sober in the next morning. scary, huh...

Here is the formula for Proactive Behaviour.
Meaning people who adapt proactive behaviour, when the stimulus arise, he will pause to think for a while, and then respond wisely. Here is the explanation.
Synergy of Proactive Behaviour
When stimulus comes, same again, it will go thru to the very first reptilian brain, continue to mammalian brain, and finally reach to rationale brain. But instead of letting your mammalian brain take control over you, you pause for a while, give some little time until the stimulus reaches the rationale brain. That way, you begin to let your rationale brain to take control of your action You are able to think straight. You gone wiser. Your acts and decisions are the best. Bet ya, the result is excellence. :-D
See the difference?
So if you want to grow wiser, do adapt proactive behaviour. Remember to add your "Pause" before your response.
So if you want to grow wiser, do adapt proactive behaviour. Remember to add your "Pause" before your response.
Talking about the “Pause” method, I remember it has been mentioned before in 7 Habits of Highly Effective People book by Stephen Covey. The synergy is about the same. According to Stephen, the “Pause” button is exactly located in our forehead, push button to activate it, pause for a while, and allow yourself to think straight.
It can be used to train anger management, too. Hope this piece of humble information is useful for you. :-D
Ciao!
