Women in Proverbs

Ok, I’ve been thinking about writing something serious about life but am not sure where to start.

Let’s start this topic, shall we?

Women in Proverbs.

I think the best thing about being a woman, aside from shopping and having more than 100 pairs of shoes for different occasion, is to embrace our femininity. God created woman to be strong in spirit and gentle in action, to have desire chase after His heart. We, as Christian woman, should know our own worth. Not absorbed into the world’s standard and all the glams that world has to offer.

But how, God? How to be a woman chase after your heart? What’s the guideline?

Let’s move to the verse, shall we?

The Wife of Noble Character

Proverbs 31:10-31 New International Version (NIV)

  1. Godly woman is worthy and valuable. She’s not interested in chasing what the world has to offer: money, possession, wealth. She knows that all of these are temporary. So what's the point of pursuing these? Instead, she’s more interested in chasing God’s heart , her creator. How to be beautiful inside out.
10 [a]A wife of noble character who can find?
    She is worth far more than rubies.
11 Her husband has full confidence in her
    and lacks nothing of value.
12 She brings him good, not harm,
    all the days of her life.

  1. Godly woman is hard working!

13 She selects wool and flax
    and works with eager hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships,
    bringing her food from afar.

  1. Godly woman is willingly sacrificed for other people. Not self-centred but to put others first before her.

15 She gets up while it is still night;
    she provides food for her family
    and portions for her female servants.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
    out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.

  1. Godly woman is STRONG. Ok not strong muscle that kind. Maybe strong determination…?

17 She sets about her work vigorously;
    her arms are strong for her tasks.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
    and her lamp does not go out at night.
19 In her hand she holds the distaff
    and grasps the spindle with her fingers.

  1. Not only Godly woman is STRONG. She also GENTLE and COMPASSIONATE.

20 She opens her arms to the poor
    and extends her hands to the needy.
21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
    for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
22 She makes coverings for her bed;
    she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is respected at the city gate,
    where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
    and supplies the merchants with sashes.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
    she can laugh at the days to come.

  1. Godly woman speaks carefully. She watches and guards her heart so that every word that she spoke, it will be from her gentle heart and not to spark an argument.

26 She speaks with wisdom,
    and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
27 She watches over the affairs of her household
    and does not eat the bread of idleness.

  1. Godly woman nurtures her children with love.

28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
    her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many women do noble things,
    but you surpass them all.”
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
    but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

  1. Godly woman knows that outer appearance is only temporary and it will be withered someday. But inner beauty will bloom forever.

31 Honor her for all that her hands have done,
    and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

Ok, knowing these doesn’t mean that I’m godly woman or more holy than you.

In fact, I’m still mere woman with many flaws and imperfections though. How many times I skip my daily devotion coz I need more time to sleep in the morning or too tired in the night? How many times I saw people with jealousy. How many times I lose my cool when Giselle throw tantrums? See I’m still mere human…. But I believe nothing’s impossible with God’s grace, right.

God, guard my soul with your holy spirit, humble my heart with your grace, help me to remember your kindness, your gentleness, your grace, that I am here today not because of my own strength, but it is because your power, that resides within me.

Amen

Thanks for reading! J

Updates: June 2015

Ohai!

How’ve you been?

This week till July will be very busy week for me. Well, basically on the top of study for N3 test. Meeting for retreat planning, Conference, etc etc…now my sis is here for business trip. After that, she will extend till weekend and we’ll then rock Singapore.

Ok I got a GOOD NEWS! My braces is coming off very soon! So excited!! Thanks ah braces for serving me well these years but I won’t be missing you anymore. Pls, take it off soon, Mr Dentist, heee!

True story actually last appointment, my dentist only said, “I think next appointment, we can take off the braces and put this journey to an end. “ Then I replied, happily, “YEAH! FINALLY!” Quickly he corrected, “Your teeth progress is like 98% already, but we only know when to remove it on the next appointment. So don’t be too hopeful” I was like, wtf whatever. Literally on that day, I was dancing out of the dentist’s office. LOL. So pls pls pls this coming appointment…PLS TAKE OFF MY BRACES! I don’t want to jinx it by telling everybody but I’m too excited my brace is off soon!

So nowadays I become very emotional. Not only religiously put on elastic by 24/7 (oh this to correct the bites anyway). I also keep on reading articles about what to expect after braces, how to care for retainers, teeth whitening, crown, etc  etc and the list goes on. Sometime, I can’t really sleep well and keep on looking at the mirror imagining how my teeth looks like without braces. I think I’m overly obsessed with the idea of taking off the braces. LOL.

Opss so kiasu I even bought Crest Whitening stripes so I can do it after my braces off!  Why Crest stripes, not teeth whitening @ dentist office? Coz I’m kiam siap like that, In office whitening cost me $500,Crest cost me $50! Oh ya, I think I have stocked up tons of whitening toothpaste and solutions for retainers! Talking about those excitements! OMG! I still have tons of interdental brushes, how am I supposed to clear those if my braces off in a few days’ time!?

Ok, whatelse?

To motivate myself for this coming exam and reward myself for finishing braces journey. I’m gonna buying purse for myself, any brand recommendation? Kate Spade, Tony Burch, or Long Champ? Or short weekend gateway to overseas? J wait wait, exam is on first Sunday of July so I think I must put on hold for holiday first! Oh no next week Conference liao! I haven’t even do some preparation. Not mentally or spiritually prepared L How??? How I’d wish I got more time now. Everyday’s gone just like that.

Haih! Game of Thrones season 5 is finished now!  Spoiler ahead!

I’m still in a state of shock right now. Can’t even sleep well in the past few days! The ending is just so horrible. Why they kill Jon Snow, just like that? Talking about this show is always giving us a surprise ending… I’m still deeply saddened by season 3 ending: Red Wedding.  They killed my favourite guy Robb Stark just like that (opss now he resurrected to be Prince Charming in Cinderella movie J  ), and now they killed Jon snow, too!? Then if Jon Snow died, who’s going to kill White Walkers? Why all Stark’s died miserably!?

On side note, I really salute to Lena Headey, Cersei’s walk of shame. She’s really soaked into Cersei’s character, walking completely naked to her castle with lots of humiliation, being spat on, being called bitch, pelted with rotten vegetables, and (don’t mention) cut her beautiful lock of golden hair as a punishment. I think I’d rather die than doing that so really take my hat off to her!

Ok, now GOT finished I got more time to study! gotta go now! I Ciao!

Updates! May 2015

Wah! The last time I was updating my blog was 2 months ago!
I’m so freaking busy until no time to blog.
I’ve been busy doing my own shit recently. If it’s not for serving my duty in social life such as: celebrating friend’s birthday, usher ministry, take care of sick baby, Omimai, hen’s night, meeting classmates/ new friend’s for outreaching, and any other stuffs. Sometime, I found myself to be busy catching up drama series (Bye bye The Walking Dead and hello Game of Thrones :-) )

Last Dec, I’ve missed out JLPT N3 registration and as a result, this year July, I have to register and take the exam already. Die die must go!
As much as I would want to find time to study, suddenly, a lot of invitations and requests coming up.  It keeps on coming in one after another and now I really developing a fear of rejecting the invitation without offending someone.  The last time I told my leader that I need to be absence of the activities and gathering in order to find some time to study for my paper, I kena *ceramah* with those verses and advices. Wualao like that also don’t want to understand. Sorry but I’m not as genius as you so in exchange, I need to study hard. No pain no game.
So!
This year I’m quite brave to decide taking N3 test on the top of my CA (advance class). And on the top of working from 9-6, having social life after works, couching Giselle’s homework, and usher ministry. Wow no wonder I don’t even have time to shit. This is crazy. God, wish me luck!

Last week I have anxiety attack, had a severe palpitation and shortness of breath. I thought I’m going to die. I need to really breathe very hard. The feeling is like very full after eating many round of buffet. I suspect that it happens because I’ve been skipping exercise and eating rubbish for almost 3 weeks.  I did chest Xray @SATA and thankfully the result was okay. So after series of Xanax and gastric pills prescribed from doctor, its improving a lot, I really need to relax, man.
I’m kind of person who not only pray but also work hard. I do believe in miracles but we, as a human, also need to thrive hard so that we can get the result we want. It’s just in my blood. Oh no wonder I got anxiety attack last week wtf. For example, yes, we need to pray for our exam, but if we only pray and pray, and not study, how to pass?  You understand what I’m coming from!? So there’s a thin line between pray and work hard, and pray and pray hard.

Sorry random topics,
So since last month I’ve been eyeing on this Baby-G watch and ta daaa! Last week I bought it myself! Got 10% discount some more! Yippie. But the design is so hipster I only can wear it during weekend, hikkxx….

Oh ya and then (another random topics). I'm in love with this bake Kitkat! so yummy!

So easy to make, open up the plastic, pop into mini oven for 2.5 mins, and taadaahh! It's melted and so yummy I can finish the whole packet by myself! LOL.

Ok, I think that would be all. I don’t know when the next time I got free time to blog again but well….I’ve gotta study now! Bye!

1D Concert!

Yo! Last Wednesday, we've survived!

for standing up to four hours!
for waiting for 1 hour (thanks ah 1D)

to dance a night away!
to enjoy the music!
to take tons of pictures and see 1D in live. OK. almost all the pictures turns badly blur.

While waiting, I saw a couple of ang moh, mother and her teenager daughter. and I told my friend, "Wah! how I'd wish my mom can be like that, very supportive and cool mom, accompany me going concert!". Then she replied, "it's ok, Deb, now you can be like that to Giselle in a few years time." LOL

After waiting for 1 hour, here we comessss.....!!!

Things that I noticed during CNY visitation in Jakarta

Hi guys!

5 things that I noticed, during my Jakarta trip

  1. Magnum is cheap!
How much is Magnum cost in Singapore? $2.50 and above.
How much is Magnum cost in Jakarta? Only Rp. 12,000 or $1.30 (1SGD=Rp.9400)

It is so cheap until I gone berserk and buy all flavours at one go! nom nom!

  1. Traffic Jam
Of course, with this kind of public transport infrastructure in Jakarta, it’s a hassle to commute via public transport.

I mean, people still prefer to commute with their private cars rather than using public transport. But hey, now it’s getting better. Busway route are everywhere now. The bus upgraded. The routes expanded. I can see the improvement from time to time, thanks to our governor, Pak Ahok. I heard there’s a fine of Rp.500, 000 (more or less) if you drive in the busway route but so far I still see the private car drive in the busway route but never witness them got fined by the traffic police. LOL.

Ok side track a bit, can you believe that I have driving license? Hence I stop driving since 6 -7 years ago because I don’t think I can drive car in Jakarta without getting someone else/myself hurt. Yeah, that's the story about me.

  1. Bandung Ritual.
Started few years back, we had a ritual going to Bandung for a day trip, just to eat and shop and buy oleh2. Now seems like most of Jakarta people like to go to Bandung. Why is it so? First, because the F&B there, are awesomely everywhere. Second, after eat full of meal then what can Jakarta people do? of course shopping! Well, The Factory Outlets are affordable and literally every corner of the road... The weather is friendly.  Not too hot and not too cold. And the list goes on. But now since we have Chloe, we kind of stop this Bandung ritual and just chilled at home.

4. Giving Tips!
I still don’t get the idea of giving tips to hairdresser/ massause while they already earn a decent pay! I mean, we in Singapore, we don’t give tips to the them, rite? Do you give tips to hairdresser/ masseuse after spa treatment? I don’t know about you but I don’t! My sister said, if their service is good, tips Rp.15,000-20,000 is obliged to be given to them. If we’re not satisfied with their service, don’t need to give tips. Here’s inside of my head, there’s this thin line between satisfy and stingy. LOL. But normally I will just give tips of max Rp. 20,000 since its only like S$2 here. Haha.

  1. F&B in the mall, not that cheap!
Don’t judge by the currency! Even if now the Rupiah weaken, the cost of eating out in a decent place in Jakarta will cost a bomb, too. For instance, eating at food court will cost about Rp.30, 000-Rp.50,000 per person. If you convert, it is like S$5-6.

But if you buy food in warteg, it will be like Rp.10, 000-20,000 but be prepared for extremely detoxification, hahaha…

Oh ya, I found my fave cafĂ© now! Recommended by my sister. We tried this Shirokuma cafĂ© and it cost us around Rp. 150,000 +/- for 3 person and if you convert, it’s only S$ 15 for 3 person. I mean, still cheaper compare to eating dessert in Singapore.

Talking about currency, ok maybe it’s only me.

I’m a kind of person who is very and extremely lazy to convert currency when shopping aboard, so I found it spending Rp is such a pain in my ass.

It is like, wow Rp. 100,000 is so expensive, no way I’m gonna buy this coz more zeros= more expensive. But actually after I convert, it is only $10 plus. And I prefer home cooked rather then eating out, but my mom seldom cooks at home, busy taking care of Chloe, hikzzz…

Then can you imagine, 1 time shopping cost me about Rp.500, 000 for 1 blazer and 1 high-waist short!? So expensive shit but after I converted it’s only $53. LOL. I mean, if you shop in Mango or ZARA Singapore, I don’t think can get this price, man. Actually I would prefer to support local brand and shop till drop in Mangga Dua but the time’s not permit. And I don’t think I have guts to haggle price anymore. Yep, so overall, I still did some shopping but in shopping mall.

Ok, thanks for reading my nonsense. Time for pictures!

Updates: Saturday March 14, 2015

6. Toilet seat with automated bidet function.

How awesome are toilets in Jakarta!!!! (especially in the mall)!!

I mean, forget about how to bring *spare* water and feminine wet wipes to wash my butt after doing big business in public toilet. In Jakarta, all the toilet seats are equipped with bidet function. Of course not that so high tech like in Japan (I tried before, they even have those rear wash, front wash, seat warmer for winter time, sounds, and deodoriser to camouflage the big bad brownies, hahaha)

Something like this, the basic function of bidet, just press and the water spray will come out and spray the water to wash the butt. How I wish that all Singapore's toilet (especially in the mall area) have this function. then no need to bring wet tissue, spare water, or additional things when I have big business urgency....you know...hahaha....

ok that's all, so now picture time!
